Making a sequel to a classic film, that is better than the original. Can you imagine something like that happening?Well, there's Blade Runner 2049. Hands down a better film than it’s predecessor. In a world of sequelitis, Denis Villeneuve made such a poetic, ponderous, beautiful film that stands on it’s own, apart from the sci-fi giant that came before it.I have to mention the beauty of this film first. Most of the moments of this film, you can pause and it would look like something that can be used as a wallpaper. Such consistent visual quality and magnificence! I've never seen anything like it before. And it matches that with a story, a sequel story to a classic film, that resonates with you so deeply. Ridley Scott made a film about thirst for life, for true life and Villeneuve extended that to a story of thirst for meaning, beyond the machination of circumstances beyond your choosing, a meaning that is wrapped up in the warmth of human connection. A story that is equal parts beautiful and hauntingly sad.Now this visionary director has taken on another sci-fi classic. A classic that notoriously known for being unadaptable. Who best to translate something like that to screen than someone who made a better sequel to a classic after 25 years?I can't wait to see what he has done. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2UKwsfJ
