I always hear that Tropic Thunder would never get made now despite the fact that it’s only 13 years old and there was a lot more controversy around the Simple Jack character than there was RDJ in blackface. Same with Blazing Saddles, which while offensive is still a very clever satire and most people would probably recognize that. I bring to your attention Soul Man starring C. Thomas Howell (of E.T. and The Hitcher game). It’s about a white guy who takes advantage of affirmative action and dresses up in blackface to attend Harvard Law School. There is NO WAY in hell that that would ever reach production today.
