"Captain America: The First Avenger": 10 Years Old Today! (July 22, 2011)

Yes, it's been a decade, ten years, since Paramount and Marvel unleashed "Captain America" on American movie theaters. I recall seeing this film in a packed 2 PM showing on opening day. I liked the movie a lot, then and now. What's not to like? Chris Evans, who played the Human Torch in some bad Fantastic Four movies, excels here as Captain America. This was pretty bold casting, given that Marvel fans had already seen him in this other role. But he fits the suit, and then some. Plus, we get the luscious Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, and Hugo Weaving as an impressively noxious Red Skull, and the action never lets up."Captain America" was also the final piece of the early MCU puzzle. It lit the fuse for the "Avengers" box office eruption nine months later. It also represented the last time Paramount would distribute an MCU film. These days, MCU films are synonymous with Disney, but we shouldn't forget that it was under Paramount's distributorship that the extremely high bar for quality and entertainment value for these films was set. "Captain America" is a great example of that.Happy 10th Birthday to Captain America! via /r/movies https://ift.tt/36V9fKE
