Anyone else pissed off by Pirates of the Caribbean 5?

I recently binge watched all of the PotC movies for the first time. Before I saw PotC 5, I found out that it came out exactly ten years after 3, when Will began his first ten year period of stewarding the locker. I guessed that the story would tell of his day on land, maybe he would break his curse, or something like that.Instead, they completely ignore the 10-year concept, destroy a lot of the series’ continuity (inconsistency in how Jack got the compass, why Will was covered in Barnacles, etc), and it all serves no purpose.Instead of the characters we know and love getting the spotlight, half the movie shows Jack bumbling around drunk in St. Martin, and he does nothing for the rest of the movie. Almost the entire plot is driven by two boring, new, extremely flat characters, Carina, who wasn’t terrible, but especially Henry. None of the characters look a day older, I think the actors were even de-aged IIRC, but we’re expected to believe Henry is Will’s 19 year old child? If there was a magic trident that could break ALL of the sea’s curses, why didn’t they look for it before? Why didn’t Will look for it in the last 19 years? since we know he has the ability to do so.Honestly, I really liked that the end of 3 felt consequential and sad and yet appropriate for the stakes 2 and 3 built up, and then this movie destroyed it all for no reason.i-still-want-more-movies-though/endrant via /r/movies https://ift.tt/34THpN4
