The "90s cool" genre (Blade, the Matrix)

There was this genre from the mid 90s through early 2000s that is very recognizable but doesn't have a name. Redlettermedia dubbed it "90s cool" in their Blade review which is fitting. Some common tropes of the genre are:A dark, gothic atmosphere.Strong elements of sci-fi.Characters wearing all black clothes (probably leather) and sunglasses.Often some kind of philosophical undertone.A soundtrack loaded with techno music or late 90s hard rock.Gun-fu action, with heavy use of wire-fu, slow mo, motorcycles, uzis, and katanas.A scene takes place in a club. The first: "The Crow".The most iconic movies in the genre: "The Matrix" and "Blade".Other movies: "Dark City", "Underworld", "Equilibrium", "Resident Evil", "The One", "Daredevil"Anime: Ghost in the Shell (the other big influence besides "The Crow"), The Animatrix, Cowboy BebopVideogames: Final Fantasy 7, Enter the Matrix, Deux ExI was feeling nostalgic about this kind of genre and wanted to talk about it. When you think about it, it absolutley dominated pop culture from 95-03ish. Really interesting. Please list some that I may have forgotten about if you think of any. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2ZMk0PP
