So a big topic for a while now has been preserving the theater experience vs the move to streaming. I recently heard Denis Villeneuve and Tarantino essentially say that one aspect of preserving the theater experience is having a shared experience with strangers. On paper, this is great. But I think what these big time directors don’t understand is most people suck and ruin movies. I don’t know about you guys, but over the past few years (even pre-pandemic) I’ve had worse and worse experiences with strangers in the movie theater. Wife and I went to see Eternals a couple nights ago, and not only did one family bring a very loud baby into the theater, someone else dropped a couple kids off unsupervised who were also very loud throughout most of the film. This is becoming more and more common. But by far my worst experience was when someone brought their toddler to our showing of Parasite and let her run around the theater freely, in and out of rows and right up to the screen. Luckily people starting screaming for the mom to take the toddler out about halfway through. Don’t get me wrong; I love going to the movies. I saw Dune in IMAX and it was incredible (luckily I had a respectful crowd with me). But I’m getting sick of paying more to see a movie just for disrespectful people to ruin it when I can stay home and have complete control over my environment. Anyone else feel me on this? via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3C6XZIy
