It's an old trope in (mostly) American TV & Movies, that high-school kids are played by much older actors. From 90210 to One Tree hill or Dangerous minds to American Pie. But last night I saw the worst offender of this trope I´ve seen in a while, the 2019 drama/thriller TeacherIt's about an high school English teacher and his interactions with a few of his students, (the plot itself is in this rant irrelevant.) It's mentioned in the movie that he's teaching 16 year olds. And in the first scenes it's painfully obvious that the class is filled with 19-22 year olds, most of them are extras of course, but then there's the antagonist of the story, a classic Jock type that looks not a day under 25. (I looked him up, but for some reason his age is nowhere to be found online). Now this is not a bad film, it could even have been good, but this beyond laughable casting pulles you instantly out of the movie every time that character is on screen, and especially in scenes with his father and his teacher respectively, where instead of sensing tension and unbalanced power between an adult man and a young teenager, it just looks like two grown men fighting & arguing. The power balance gets completely lost, plus you just cant help laughing every time you catch a chance of the kids crowfeet & five o'clock shadow.Seriously casting directors of America: Stop this ridiculousness. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3ecx05j
