The Last Black Man in San Francisco

Just watched this movie last night and I am still completely blown away.If you don't know the plot, it is about a young black man named Jimmie (Jimmie Fails) and his playwright friend Montgomery (Jonathan Majors) trying to reclaim a house that Jimmie's grandfather built in 1946.The Last Black Man in San Francisco is seriously one of the most gorgeous films I have ever seen. The house Jimmie and Monty are so intent on is gorgeous, with scenes often bathed in natural light. One of the best scenes is when Jimmie and Monty finally get inside the house. Their joy is contagious as they run through, admiring all the architecture and beauty of the house. The entire city of San Francisco is presented in this same beautiful way. Joe Talbot's direction is fantastic, showing a heightened, but nonetheless real depiction of San Francisco. Nudists, people living in cars, shit-talkers outside your house, angry white women, the choice between skateboarding or taking the bus. Talbot makes sure to show it all, and as a viewer one can begin to understand the multitudes of a city like San Francisco.Fails and Majors are truly great actors and I can not wait to see what they will do next. Fails brings a stoicism and optimism to Jimmie that makes his passion for the house more and more understandable. Majors' sensitivity ends up motivating one of the best scenes at the end of the film, and his relationship with his grandfather (Danny Glover) is wonderful to watch.Joe Talbot will be someone to watch, and I think this movie proves it. It is free on Amazon Prime Video.P.S.: Here's the opening scene of the movie to see if the style is something you'd like to watch-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Oy_HiDFfVo via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2S75BFX
