Did I miss something about Se7en?

I just got to watch Se7en again, after a really long time, and just noticed something that really bugs me of a movie which I always considered a great classic and probably the best in its genre. We know that John Doe has a clear masterplan which involves one murder for each one of the biblical seven deadly sins.At one point in the movie, we are told that the murder corresponding to Sloth starts taking shape one full year before the time the movie takes place. At the end of the movie, we discover that the sixth murder, Envy, is connected to the feelings John Doe has towards Mills’ life, his beautiful wife and the kid he had on the way.The problem I have is that Mills only got transferred to Metro from upstate recently, and the movie starts on his first day with Somerset. Doesn’t this make Doe’s masterplan impossible to conceive a full year before the movie’s events take place? What if Mills didn’t get transferred? Would John Doe simply have found another police man to be envious of? Was Doe’s plan to be used as a victim of the Wrath murder all along?I’d appreciate any insight you guys could have on this! Thanks via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2PK3EyX
