In Back to the Future II, Marty and Doc were scripted to go to 1967 instead of 1955 because the producers wanted to show audiences the "1960s hippies and lava lamps" as opposed to the "1950s greasers and malt shops" in the first film. In 1967, Marty's parents and '67 Doc were hippies.
