What studios and directors need to understand is that we, as a society, are people who once a convenience has been introduced it will be very hard to convince us to break that convenience.Ridley Scott is a good director, but his films haven’t been the hype machines they were previously. His movies aren’t events in the same way as major franchises, and even then we see major franchises get flagging returns nowadays. The reason is once you release movies digitally on release, you’ve created a subculture of people who will never go to the movies again unless it’s for a special occasion or big franchise movie. The allure to going to the movies was the screen, the quality of the image, the sound, and the social interaction. But now a lot of us have decently sized TVs capable of 4K, sound systems, and well.. friends to invite over. Not to mention (obviously) Netflix, and even the video demand services offered by the studios still pushing theatrical releases.Marketing was also a huge issue. It’s simple and doesn’t need multiple paragraphs. No one saw shit for this unless you happened to watch an ign video like four months ago lol.TLDR If they had done a timed digital day one release and theatrical, they would’ve gotten more people interested and me personally, I would’ve definitely paid 20-30 dollars if I could watch it at home, and if it was good, I’d even go to the theaters to see it again. That’s what I did with dune. Also market your movies Ridley!! via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3xhBwY9

» The biggest thing that hurt “The Last Duel” wasn’t millennials. It was lack of a digital release and a major lack of marketing.
