Back in the day I thought it cool like everything tried to be trench coat cool then. It was kind of a low-rent "Matrix" or "Blade". But I love it now purely for the acting and subtleties, which I feel are vastly underrated. The little setups are awesome. For instance:Towards the beginning when Preston is having breakfast with his children, the younger daughter is playing with her cereal with the smallest of smiles on her face. That's one hint. Her brother scolds her, which is another hint, both because he shows the tiniest bit of anger and because he's worried about her giving the game away. This is something you wouldn't have noticed at all on the first watch through.Later, when Preston and his son speak and they're both admitting to being off Prozium, Preston asks his son if his sister is too. His son gives a little half-smile and laugh says, "Of course she is." Combined with the earlier scene, that little line does so much to fill in the sister's personality, even though she barely says one word. She's a precocious little girl full of life. All the parts between Preston coming down from the Prozium and learning to feel again are incredible. Bale does so much great subtle acting with little twitches of the eyes and jaw. And all the scenes with the puppy . . .Maybe I'm just getting to be a softy in my later years, but that stuff really hits me know when before I all cared about was the fighting and gunplay.I just finished watching it again for the first time in years and quickly shat out this post, so I'm not sure how well it reads. Y'all get the gist of what I'm trying to say I hope. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3mUQn7t
