The man has made some of the most memorable movies of the last half century. He did gross, weird, funny movies that resonated with a LOT of us. Almost NONE of his work was a commercial success but who doesn't love "Escape from New York" or "Big Trouble in Little China" or what I consider his perfection incarnate masterpiece, "The Thing". He launched the entire slasher genre. The man is a fucking LEGEND and he deserves this at the least. The problem is, he didn't make art, he made ENTERTAINMENT. Which is what movies are at their core.
