Just finished Mission: Impossible- Fallout. This franchise deserves massive props for keeping the movies fresh --and even improving upon them-- over the last 25 years.

Just finished both the Bond and MI series. This isn't meant to be a comparison of the two, but I should note that while Bond struggles to find itself in the modern world --even devoting an entire movie to the idea-- the MI series seems more at home in the technology-dependent present. Of course, that technology often fails, and that's one of the more entertaining parts of the MI series.Ghost Protocol had one of my favorite openings in recent years (so good it inspired its own show with the same actor in the same role) along with some fantastic, inventive uses of technology (the hallway scene comes to mind) and Fallout continued the trend of continuously entertaining in new ways while avoiding the overly cliche path most franchises seem to go down, you know...'BIGGER, LOUDER, MORE EXPLOSIONS!' Plus, the supporting cast (Pegg, Renner, Baldwin, Cavill, etc) and set pieces are always killer and the villains have been fantastic, whereas Bond has been struggling a bit in that aspect as of late.Anyway, major props to McQuarrie and Bird. Even the older movies have aged surprisingly well (thanks to fantastic performances from Philip Seymour Hoffman and a few others) and I'm extremely excited for the next one.
