There were several scenes leading up to JoJo discovering his dead mother hanging in the square where the camera would cut her off above the ankle. More than just highlighting her shoes, which are obviously a huge visual cue in this scene, it made you feel used to viewing her feet by JoJo's head in the exact way that they come into view while he's chasing the butterfly and stumbles upon her.
