Brad Pitt won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a category where he was the only actor playing a fictional character. Has this ever happened before?

Brad Pitt won for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.Others in the category were Joe Pesci (Russell Bufalino), Al Pacino (Jimmy Hoffa), Tom Hanks (Fred Rogers), and Anthony Hopkins (Pope Benedict XVI). Quite the collection...I just noticed this and wondered if it had ever happened before. A quick look through Wikipedia has me thinking it could be a first - at least for actors. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3avG9BV
