Just had the privilege of sharing Contact (1997) with my astronomy-mad 9 year old

It still stacks up so well, 22 years after release. Aside from a few shots of old CRT monitors, fax machines and a pager it's a remarkably timeless movie. Jodie Foster's acting is passionate and she absolutely /is/ Ellie, while the supporting cast play their roles so believably. My son loved it, constantly asking questions and wanting to understand the science behind it. The looks of amazement and awe on his face as the movie unfolded were absolutely priceless. Now to go read the novel again! via /r/movies http://bit.ly/2W6XLNv
