Directors who were trying to make a different movie?

George Lucas originally wanted to make a Flash Gordon film but couldn't get the rights so he made Star Wars. Sam Raimi made Darkman because he couldn't get the rights to Batman. There are certain cases where it wasn't a rights issue, but rather just the director's interests were with something else like JJ Abrams trying to make Star Trek into Star Wars or Luc Besson doing Fifth Element as an audition for Valerian. What are some other cases where a director clearly wanted to make a different movie but had to settle for a different IP or an original script? via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3zmRZeh
