No it wasn't a fever dream: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004) is real, and it's a great movie wrapped around pulp nostalgia.

I recently rediscovered Sky Captain, featuring Jude Law as a 1930s airplane mercenary superhero (typical), Gwyneth Patrow as a snarky, quick witted femme fatale reporter and Angelina Jolie as Nick Fury an eyepatched head of an international security organization based on a Helicarrier.Join our dazziling adventurers as they face off against the mysterious and dreadfull Doctor Totenkopf and his army of murderous machines!Seriously, the fact that they made a black and white pulp action movie heavily inspired by 1930s pulp radio with A-list stars is amazing. And what is more amazing is that IT WORKS! To quote Roger Ebert, who gave the movie 4 out of 4: " its heedless energy and joy, it reminded me of how I felt the first time I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark. It's like a film that escaped from the imagination directly onto the screen, without having to pass through reality along the way"I highly recommend this bizarre piece of cinematic history. Fun all around. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3vpzoN0
