Just watched Léon: The Professional (1994) for the first time...and WOW what a film! I didn’t really know anything about the movie, I just heard it was a good and decided to give it a shot, since I’ve got all this time due to quarantine. And wow I did not expect to love it this much. I thought the movie was going to have a serious tone, but I found myself laughing and had a big smile for most of the movie.Natalie Portman absolutely kills it on her debut role. I was very surprised to hear that it was her 1st role, since her acting looked like she had been doing this for a few years. Jean Reno also did really well playing a badass hit man, but also a loving and caring person when it comes to Mathilda. They had a sweet and interesting relationship, that never crossed any lines or made me feel uncomfortable at any point. I think if the wrong director was appointed, this film could’ve went really bad and ruined the whole film. However, Luc Besson didn’t cross any lines and made sure the viewers saw their relationship as a father/daughter one.The movie really made me feel attached to the characters and I was sad when Leon died, because I would’ve liked for him and Mathilda to run away together and live the rest of their lives by each other’s side. However, Leon sacrificing himself to kill the person (Gary Oldman) that killed Mathilda’s brother is still a fantastic ending. The only thing I didn’t like about the movie was when Gary Oldman took those pills and does that weird body movement. Not sure what he took, but it felt like he was trying too hard to be odd and it felt out of place with the film. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3rcZoIY
