20 years ago: "Vin Diesel is interesting. Something will come of him." Never forget that Roger Ebert was an absolute legend.

20 years ago (this year, not today) Ebert wrote the following in his review of Boiler Room (which is a great movie you should check out if you haven't):A few days ago I saw Vin Diesel as a vicious prisoner in the space opera "Pitch Black," and now here he is, still tough, still with the shaved head, but now the only guy at the brokerage that Seth really likes, and trusts enough to appeal to. Diesel is interesting. Something will come of him. Here's the reviewPart of what's great is what's true, and a bit forgotten: Diesel really was an interesting and compelling actor in small and realistic roles, but fame had other plans for him.I don't begrudge him making money and I'm not saying he would have been Daniel Day-Lewis, but it's a good reminder that some actors have more than they get to show. It's also a reason to be thankful that guys like Tom Hardy have the ability and desire to not just steer into action.Regardless, all props to Ebert for being right, even if he wasn't right in the way he might have predicted. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2BqyZCB
