Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again will never not confuse me with its age casting. We all probably know that they infamously cast Cher as Meryl Streep's Mom. But they also have her on-screen with Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skaarsgard, Colin Firth, Christine Baranski, and Julie Walters, who are all Meryl's love interests and/or friends. That are the same age as Streep. Which means she's somehow old enough to be the Mom of all those people. But that's not the weird part. The weird part is they cast Andy Garcia as a former flame of hers from before Meryl Streep was even born. So Andy Garcia, whose younger than most of those people, is also supposed to be old enough to be the Dad of Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skaarsgard, Colin Firth, Christine Baranski, and Julie Walters. What, was Antonio Banderas busy? And if that wasn't weird enough, we met Stellan Skaarsgard's Mom at one point. And she's literally played by someone whose the same age as Skaarsgard. I have no idea why they couldn't have hired a 90 year old to play her when she never sings and dances. And if THAT wasn't weird enough, we meet a band in the 70's Flashback scenes. Then we meet them in the present time (whenever it's supposed to be set) and they literally haven't aged a day. The filmmakers went to the trouble of casting younger actors to play younger versions of the main cast but couldn't bother to cast younger actors to play younger members of the band.I know, I know, it's just supposed to be silly fluff and we're not supposed to think about it. And, outside of the weird age differences, it's an okay movie honestly. It's just, yeah, that casting really does stick out. It doesn't help that they barely even try to make Cher and Garcia look elderly and they don't really. They both may have been 62 and 72 when the movie came out but they could pass for being in their 50's honestly. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2UGhyog
