I got one of those unlimited movie passes to my local cinema and because I hate myself I decided to try and watch every movie that comes to my theater. January is not a great month for movies and is a terrible place to start something like this but it is what it is. We'll see how far I make it.No one asked but here's what I've come up with so far!January: 4.2 Average ScoreBest: Bad Boys For Life. Worst: The Turning.#1 – Bad Boys For Life 7.5/10. Pros: Lawrence and Smith’s acting, supporting cast is good if forgettable, editing, cinematography, action well-choreographed. Cons: Smith’s character at times unlikable, jokes ripped from early 90s inappropriate, music happens, bland villain, story is predictable, boring structure.#2 – The Gentlemen 7.0/10. Pros: acting excellent, characters fun, interesting structure, good laughs. Cons: story is meh, structure can be annoying, tries a little too hard to be “cool”, no surprises even though it tries to set them up.#3 – Underwater 5.5/10. Pros: Sound design, visual effects, creature design, talent is acceptable, bonkers final act, doesn’t try to explain anything. Cons: Stuttering pace, threads that feel part of a longer narrative, uninspired story, telegraphed kills, tone is off.#4 – Gretel And Hansel 5.0/10. Visuals and sound, music, witch design/portrayal, atmosphere of weirdness. Cons: uneven acting, stilted dialogue, structure, pacing.#5 – The Rhythm Section 4.0/10. Blake Lively’s acting, make-up, pacing. Cons: Story needed more focus, Basically feels like a pretentious Bond film.#6 – The Grudge 3.0/10. Pros: leading actress was enjoyable to watch, leading actor’s accent baffling but satisfying. Cons: Bad editing, uninspired music, decision not to show kills, too much time wasted on prior victims.#7 – Dolittle 2.5/10. Pros: so much happens it doesn’t feel like a 100 minute film, so bizarre it’s engaging, isn’t Like A Boss. Cons: criminally underused cast, Downey’s accent and visual effects passable at best, story is cliché as can be, can’t believe it cost $180,000,000 to make, anachronistic dialogue.#8 – Like A Boss 2.0/10. Pros: Good chemistry between main actresses. Cons: Plot-by-the-numbers, bizarre structure, horrific pacing, movie couldn’t wait to end, and run time felt longer, none of the jokes landed.#9– The Turning 1.5/10. Pros: Leads acting, atmosphere. Cons: story is predictable, confusing structure, lackluster music, feels old, it just ends. IT. JUST. ENDS.Overall Best Movie: Bad Boys For LifeOverall Worst: The TurningOverall Best Month: JanuaryOverall Worst Month: January via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2Uk5c5J
