Many people don't understand how they vote for the "Best Picture" in the Oscars. Explanation if you don't already know... Oscar voting uses a preferential ballot system. In short, voters rank their favorites from 1-9. If a movie doesn't have over 50% of the vote, they throw out the movie with the lowest #1 votes, and the #2 choice on those ballots becomes 1st place votes. They keep doing this until a movie has over 50%. That's how you end up with "Green Book" winning. It can end up being the least-divisive film instead of the one that got the most true 1st place votes. Here’s an article explaining it.I'm curious who Reddit would select as the Best Picture Winner tonight. I figure we can do it like the actual Oscars and force voters to rank them 1-9 (winner needs over 50% of the vote). Here's a quick ranked poll I set up: https://rankit.vote/vote/1a8o3SQVzZAAZugFmPbcI’ll keep this poll open until mid-way through the show.Edit: Note when if you click "view results", you'll see the final results with one movie having over 50% of the vote. You'll see in the bottom right corner an option to click/tap and see the Round by Round results. For instance, you might see "The Irishman" in the lead with 26% in Round 1... but over the course of the next 3-4 rounds, another movie like "Little Women" might jump ahead. I'll keep this open until mid-way through the Oscars and edit with the final results via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2Hb8Re8
