Obviously not every movie, but I feel like a ton of adventure/action/comedy movies were really playing off meta humor more than I can remember in the past.Seems like every super hero movie that comes out now has a few meta jokes here or there about how ridiculous it all is.The fast and furious movies have embraced their lack of seriousness and are filled with meta humor.Star Wars was very guilty of it.You notice it a lot in films like detective Pikachu and sonic the hedgehog as well.Maybe I’m too loosely using “meta” interchangeably with not taking themselves seriously, but i just feel like there’s this trend of movies that know they’re obviously unrealistic in real world context, and they make it apparent to the viewer that they know.I enjoyed this humor at first, but I’m getting kind of sick of it now. I want fantastical adventure /action movies to take themselves seriously again, to not acknowledge that the premise of their film is ridiculous, even if it is. I think it ultimately hampers the movie and kind of takes away from the viewer, and usually it garners a laugh the first time but doesn’t age well on rewatches. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/31TBbeS

» The 2010’s felt like an era of meta jokes in movies, and I kind of hope this trend goes away the next decade.
