Discussion on A Goofy Movie's opening scene

Goofy's teenage son, Max, is in a beautiful dream. The wind is blowing, there are clouds floating across a blue sky. He hears the voice of Roxanne, the girl he likes. She calls to him from atop a Roman column. He looks up as she leaps down, floating into his arms. They collapse in a pile on the ground, rolling side by side and facing each other with perfect awkward young romantic looks. Then, suddenly, he starts to transform. He looks on in horror while the sky darkens, and Roxanne staggers backwards at his various body parts morphing into his dad's. He fights the change, but it all culminates in his head becoming Goofy's, and he tries to stifle a long loud Goofy "A-hyuk" while lightning crashes in the background. It's just so perfect. All of it, the lighthearted hopeful dream in the beginning where two kids are playfully flirting. And then the rug gets pulled out from under Max, and he has to literally face the anxieties of puberty and looming adulthood when he turns into his father. And it's played like a horror scene, because for Max he is terrified of turning out exactly like his dad.It turns out to be wonder foreshadowing, as Max's relationship with Goofy and his desire to be his own person drive a lot of the conflict in this thoughtful 90's classic. And it all starts with a short, brilliant opening. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2v6AaDL
