He is not really chalked out as an emotional person during the whole movie but all those bottled up feelings are represented so well in his singing. It was amazingly soulful and emotional to hear it. Also the timing was right at the end where the song actually establishes the finality of everything that has happened in the marriage and subsequent divorce proceedings.It was definitely unexpected and totally worth it.
