We are the filmmakers and subject of a documentary noir called “The Penny Black.” You can check out our trailer at https://ift.tt/3yeg71n. But if you’re at work right now or can’t watch with sound, the movie is a non-fiction investigative thriller that begins when Will, the estranged son of a conman, agrees to safeguard a mysterious million-dollar stamp collection for his unknowable Russian neighbor. After the neighbor vanishes without a trace, Will searches for the collection's true owner, confronting his fear and integrity head-on. But when some of the stamps suddenly disappear, the filmmakers are forced to reexamine Will’s capacity for honesty. We spent about 6 years following this story through plenty of ups, downs, sideways’s, and endless spirals into existential oblivion. We learned a lot along the way: the ins and outs of con artistry, how private investigators track down missing people, the Russian mafia’s presence in Los Angeles, and the peculiar world of philately (stamp collecting), to name a few. We also learned plenty of lessons about indie filmmaking, despite the fact that we were already fairly experienced filmmakers when we started shooting (our director, Joe Saunders, is a goddamn EMMY winner). So if you want to know anything about the boulder-push-up-a-hill that is filming a no-budget documentary for 6 years, you’ve come to the right place.Everything about the movie, including where you can rent/buy it, is on our website (below), and be sure to follow us on our social pages:https://ift.tt/3yeg71n IG: @thepennyblackmovie https://ift.tt/3hpqJnm - https://ift.tt/3htRXZV - https://ift.tt/3yfWiGY - https://ift.tt/3ydxRKj via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3qNABM8
