Starz is a joke of a streaming service, I can’t believe anyone would pay for this. They zoom in on widescreen movies to fill the TV screen instead of presenting the original aspect ratios

I thought it was just a one time thing with Miami Vice (2006), but nah I went to watch The Thin Red Line and they zoomed that shit in too. Sad that a bunch of headasses who don’t clearly give the slightest shit about movies run these garbage “streaming services.” Peacock is a free service and they had Miami Vice in the right aspect ratio. I’m on a free trial btw, I would never pay for this shit.Edit: Holy shit they did Apollo 13 dirty too. Nah I’m done. Hope Starz goes out of business so the better streaming services can get the movies on there via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2SJNpqg

I know it's not that old but holy cow is MI: Fallout a great movie to rewatch.

The motorcycle chase, the bmw chase, the frickin helicopter chase, the stunts, the pacing, the twists, the bathroom fight and the cliffside brawl. All top notch. No crazy jumpcuts. Cinematography was on point, sound was perfect. Henry Cavill was great casting choice. If you've been waiting for a fast paced action flick like me I highly recommend it. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3yd4lVd

Why did Looney Tunes Back in Action bomb so hard?

This has been asked before, but I never got a clear answer. This film bombed so hard, Looney Tunes stop making theatrical movies up until this year! It bombed real badly, and I don’t know why. The animation is great, the voice acting is great, (unlike Space Jam) there isn’t an overly sexualized character, at least for long, (Don’t look up Lola Bunny rule 34) and it’s still smart and snarky. How did Space Jam get the upper hand? via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3AeV8gD

Or even the other way around. Black Widow: Critic Reviews Megathread

Rotten Tomatoes: 86% - 7.2 out of 10 Average Rating - 70 ReviewsMetacritic 69/100 - 28 ReviewsWritten Reviews:Empire - Nick De Semlyen - 4/5It shouldn’t really have taken 11 years for the Widow to get her own standalone adventure. But thanks to some zesty new character dynamics and smart twists, Marvel have finally done her right. The Hollywood Reporter - David RooneyDirected by Cate Shortland with propulsive excitement, humor and pleasingly understated emotional interludes, this standalone proves a stellar vehicle for Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff, given first-rate support by Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz and David Harbour. The Guardian - Peter Bradshaw - 4/5Great fun is had in giving us the backstory to the assassin’s place in the Marvel Cinematic UniverseVanity Fair - Richard LawsonThe long-awaited standalone film about Scarlett Johansson’s ex-assassin is just that—an adventure that (mostly) operates outside of the larger franchise machinery.Variety - Owen GleibermanIn her first stand-alone saga, Scarlett Johansson invests the famous fighter with an interior power. The Wrap - Alonso DuraldeRather than deeply explore the character and soul of Natasha Romanoff, however, “Black Widow” treats her like a TV star who’s devoting an episode of her series to introducing new characters who might or might not break off into a spinoff of their own. The film does offer additional insight into the character’s tortured past, but the overwhelming effect is that of a baton being passed.Geek of Colour - Britany Murphy - 8/10Black Widow is a thoroughly entertaining flick that is likely to please audiences with its action, wittiness, and great characters. It is very much a spy thriller and different from the other movies we’ve received from the MCU thus far. As a standalone prequel, it does its job and serves as both a great ode and goodbye to the one and only, Natasha Romanoff a.k.a. Black Widow.Forbes - Scott MendelsonThe years-too-late solo flick for Scarlett Johansson’s MCU superhero is both too much of a glorified backdoor pilot for its co-star and not up to par with the spy films and espionage thrillers it wishes to emulate.BBC - Caryn James - 4/5The latest Marvel offering is entertaining and full of action. It is also 'the least Avenger-like movie in the series so far'New York Post - Johnny Oleksinski - 3/4The movie's vibe isn't like your average MCU entry at all, really. What it reminded me of are the many James Bond films where 007 goes rogue and cavorts around world cities seeking his revenge du jour.Time Out - Philip De Semiyen - 4/5The MCU goes Jason Bourne in a superhero spy movie that sparks when Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh share the screen. A satisfying mix of muscle and emotion.Washington Post - Ann Hornaday - 2.5/4Black Widow simultaneously feels like too much and too little. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3qxUAhL

What false movie facts, trivia, or behind-the-scenes stories are you sick of hearing about?

All too often I'll be reading a film article, or a comment, or a reddit post, only to see people touting a completely false 'fact' as 100% true. It grinds my gears that people are reading these and believing these myths as facts. Are there any incorrect pieces of movie trivia that you would like to complain about? For example, I have two that I'm sick of reading about:#1 is "Heath Ledger in the Dark Knight improvised the little scene when the hospital stopped exploding." I can get why people might think this, Heath was a great actor and totally sold the confused body language, but a whole lot of behind-the-scenes footage, testimony, etc clearly show Ledger practicing the scene. It was pretty much a "we've only got one take of this, so you have to get it right," situation. They wouldn't leave a multi million dollar pyrotechnic extravaganza like that up to chance.#2 is "In Pulp Fiction all the clocks are set to 4:20." This one is utterly baffling, as there are a lot of shots of clocks and watches throughout the movie and the only scene where they actually read 4:20 is when Butch is in the backroom of the pawn shop and a wall full of clocks are behind him. I think what makes this worse is people who tell this trivia keep saying "Check it!" in a really smug way. Well yes, I did check it, actually, thank you for asking. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3jrsaUW

What do you think is the most unrealistic survived death in a movie?

I was watching Hot Fuzz the other day and, SPOILERS, towards the end of it, Nick Frosts character gets shot with a blunderbuss at point blank range and is then caught in the police station explosion. He ends up surviving this. This got me thinking about characters surviving unrealistic deaths. Now obviously Hot Fuzz is satire and that whole moment was probably a send up of this very thing but I'm wondering about movies that take themselves seriously when it comes to character deaths. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2UaQ9xe

Anybody else hate IMDb's new design?

I've been a semi-obsessive user of IMDb for almost a decade now. Anytime I watch a film I immediately go on there after and vacuum up all of the info. The trivia, the goofs, budget info etc. I check out the full cast and crew, check out what other actors from it have been in etc. and usually find myself going down a rabbit hole. I also have a huge watchlist and my own ratings which I do after each watch. I love the site. One thing I always loved is how compact and easy to see/navigate it was. But now? It just looks like a mess. Everything is way too spaced out. I find myself scanning my eyes over the whole page just to find basic stuff. I mean it's not terrible, it is obviously useable. But it was the old way for so long because it just worked. I don't understand why companies like this feel the need to constantly meddle with their user experience. Another good example is Spotify, that just keeps getting more and more convoluted to use with every damn update. Why fix what isn't broken? I'll probably get people telling me just to get used to it. Well yeah, you can get used to anything if you use it enough. Doesn't mean it's not shit and worse than it has been for years and years.Anybody else with me here? I can't be the only one. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2U6FZOb

Joe Versus the Volcano was way ahead of its time.

A movie about a guy with undiagnosed PTSD, anxiety and depression, struggles with his terrible boss in a dead end job with little to no medical benefits, goes broke paying for doctors to figure out why he feels terrible. Finally is diagnosed with mental health problems along with a terminal illness and told to take a vacation. So he sets off on a suicidal mission/vision quest as a last ditch effort experience life before he dies. Not mention the movies serves as a test run of the chemistry between Hanks and Meg Ryan BEFORE Sleepless in Seattle.Incredibly re-watchable. Worth a watch if you get a chance. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3h0Io5N

Saw this when it came out in the theater with my wife. We both have similar tastes in movies but i came out of the theater on a cinematic high and my wife was meh.Once i was able to watch it at home, i tested it out to see if i still liked it and i just keep liking it more every time i watch it.We are not hardcore tarantino fans but we like his films. Peter Jackson's last movie before the lord of the rings trilogy, The frighteners (1996) may be my favourite from the director.

I don't really see this movie talked about very often. Michael J Fox is great and does something we haven't really seen him do before, playing a social outcast suspected of murdering his wife. Full of great, memorable characters with pretty great visual effects. Love the story, setting, set design and especially the score from Danny Elfman. I unironically love Tenet

I feel like this sub has almost nothing but hate for Tenet, but I actually loved it, which is pretty odd considering I'm a kid lol.A lot of people don't like this movie because it's very VERY confusing, but I love films that make you think and Tenet is a perfect example, especially now when the norm is stuff like the MCU and sequels and reboots, Tenet feels like a breath of fresh air.The concept of moving backwards in time allows for some very inventive action sequences, and IMO the action is one of the best parts of the movie, the Freeport fight where TP fights his inverted self is the standout IMO.The soundtrack by Ludwig Goransson is incredible, he delivers one of Nolan's best scores, just listen to Posterity if you haven't yet.I don't think Tenet is a masterpiece and admittedly it does have some flaws, sometimes Tenet gets a bit TOO confusing to the point of becoming a mess at times, the sound mixing is REALLY bad, the characters really aren't the strong suit of the film, the performances are pretty strong with Robert Pattinson being the standout, but that's all that really carries the characters, and Sator is a pretty hammy villain. But IMO overall the strengths outweigh the weaknesses, Tenet isn't Nolan's best movie, but I still love it. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3dk0Nsh

One of the (countless) great things about The Mask of Zorro (1998) is how it feels like a sequel to a movie we never saw.

The Mask of Zorro is the story of Alejandro, whos is trained by the old Diego de La Vega to be his successor as Zorro. The movie starts in the past with Diego de La Vega as an slowly out of his prime Zorro being confronted by governor Rafael, his archenemy. It is very much the last duel of the original Zorro, a conclusion to his story. But while other movies would showcase every facet of Zorro in this scene, trying to convey the big picture to us, this movie leaves a lot to the imagination. Don Diego and Don Rafael clearly have an old relationship, they have known each other and were probably friends while Diego secretely fought him as Zorro many times. Rafael is clearly in love with Diego's wife. This isn't just exposition, this is a whole world we are only catching a glimpse of. It is kinda like seeing Obi-Wan and Anakin's Mustafar confrontation on Mustafar and then watching a New Hope, there was an entire trilogy there, we just didn't see it.Just watch this scene and you will notice how it feels like a final confrontation in its own unique movie. Even the music has its own theme which is not repeated later in the movie. The theme is similar to that of the Second Zorro, but it remains different, like that of a different story.I jst love that the backstory isn't just "back" story, but its own little world that we quickly see before fastforwarding years ahead to the tale of Alejandro, the second Zorro. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3zZzDk9

EuroTrip (2004) is a massively over-looked, super rewatchable comedy from the early 2000s

The entire film is genius. I've watched it both drunk and sober, equally enjoyable. The characters are incredibly quotable and the film making is top notch for what it is.The actors do a really good job. Everyone seems to be having a blast, and the script is equal part hallarious and absurd. It combines a stereotypical european view of Americans, with a Stereotypical American view of Europe. It only gets crazier and crazier. It's an absolute blast to watch and the side gags are amazing. Some of the jokes are incredibly clever, and the chemistry between the main cast is great.A definite recommendation if you ask me.Link to the best scene in the film: https://youtu.be/VdP0JXZpbx0 via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3wZYpPa

I finally saw Looper (2012)

I had been wanting to see this film literally since it came out. I finally sat down and watched it, and boy, what a ride. I love the premise, this is the way a time travel movie should be done. The time travel serves the story, and the film doesn't over complicate it or let itself get caught up in exposition like some of its peers (looking right at you, Tenet).Seeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt doing his best Bruce Willis impression was entertaining, albeit a bit inconsistent at times, but damn he sold me on it. Emily Blunt was amazing, as usual, and Bruce Willis was Bruce Willis. The camera work was incredibly well done, the stunts and set pieces were eye candy, and the world building was subtle, but just enough to immerse you. World building doesn't have to be super complicated, and this is a great example of how it should be done.It was a little too long, in my opinion, the middle sagged for about 15-20 minutes, and the ending is a typical 'we gotta get everyone in one place' kinda deal, but the final scene is worth it.Definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it, sci-fi and time travel done right. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2UKs5By

“A Wrinkle in Time” looks and sounds like a talented group of Hollywood people tried to make a $100M film on a $10K budget in 24hrs as a fun challenge.

This film looks and sounds like bare bones. There is little immersion by way of set design, the dialogue is in dire need of “weathering,” and the costumes looked like they were pulled from a college runway. The makeup is the only exception. It doesn’t look like it was applied by anyone with any talent at all. The makeup looks like the initial makeup artist called in sick and someone had to call their cousin who’s a “makeup guru” on YouTube with 1400 subscribers. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3jeJUD0

I finally watched Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2011)

And it was awesome. Such a great satire of the traditional horror movie. It used basically every trope and then inverted them in very creative ways. The ending might leave some wanting, but it worked for me.But what really surprised me about this film was how fundamentally wholesome it was. Tucker and Dale, and especially Dale, are good, decent men with a great friendship. They are certainly not perfect but given what we see of them, there's no question they are good people. As are most of the college kids, and the cop. There's only one "bad" guy, and he gets a backstory to explain why he's bad.I had seen this movie on Netflix for years but never chose it because of what I thought was a dumb image and it looked like a bad B movie. My mistake! On Amazon Prime it had a different image and it got recommended to me by the algorithm and I loved it. For all those years, I was wrong. Makes me wonder how many other great movies I am missing because of an image.Last thought: Not really sure how the title of the movie works, but it's distinct enough that I like it. It's kind of a spoiler though. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3heY2cV
