I genuinely liked Diane Keaton in the Godfather movies. I felt she was the sole character to challenge Michael and his family in how they conducted themselves and in the 1st film we saw Kay blossom from a lively and inquisitive girl to gradually realize the mess she got in. Even though in The Godfather, I still felt Kay was underwritten, we at least got to see enough of her arc. Being forgotten by Michael and then seduced back into the family. I loved how the last scene of The Godfather is her confrontation with Michael and him turning violent on her for the first time. Their scenes are so tense, their war of words like a battle of minds, that I wish Francis Ford Coppola had explored Kay further and we have more scenes involving Michael and Kay's troubled marriage. The 2nd film really messes Kay up. I think she only had 4 scenes in total for a 3 hour movie. To be fair, those four scenes are among the best especially when Kay finally has enough and lets it rip on Michael. She's the only character in the entire saga who's brave enough to stand up to Michael and she pays the ultimate price for it. It's just unfortunate Kay has no arc in Part II, she's fairly invisible in that movie. I would say even Talia Shire's Connie had a bigger part in Part II than Keaton's Kay. Seeing her as the outsider struggling with her conscience would have been an interesting plotline to watch. What do you think? via /r/movies https://ift.tt/36R6B9B
