Mulan failed to do what Kung Fu Panda succeeded in - respecting Chinese culture

In response to Mulan's abysmal Douban score (Chinese IMDb, with 30 thousand Chinese reviews/ratings), I find it hilarious how Disney attempted to appeal to Chinese audiences , yet completely relied on stereotypes of Chinese culture. Not only did they already alienate fans of the original, but now also offended the Chinese target audiences.A bunch of white men in suits are probably scratching their head right now, refusing to acknowledge the error they made.Which brings me to Kung Fu Panda. This film actually shocked many at the time with how much level of detail and respect it had for Chinese art and culture. There are countless analysis on this, but its VERY much a love letter to Chinese culture. It works as a light hearted animated movie that can be enjoyed by American families, but also has richer subtext for a Chinese audiences. The films did verv well at the Chinese BO.Disney should have taken notes. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3bxpLCj
