Jaws prefects the balance between character work and spectacle.

For about 1 hour our main focus is on the drama and politics on Amity island. During this the shark barely features for 5 minutes in total, but remains and defines the background. But Chief Brody and Hooper dominate the plot for the first half.In the second half, we go on a journey with 3 characters and it is here where we pay attention to Quint who becomes the main character. But this second half is all about the shark mission and full of action/spectacle. What makes this spectacle intriguing is that we care about the characters, especially Brody and hope to see them survive the ordeal. This is nothing extraordinary, but I feel that the balance execution was perfect for a blockbuster and is a lesson as well for filmmakers, especially in this CGI heavy environment where directors tend to situate spectacle scenes all over.Jaws is a dazzling picture, even after all these years via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2E1Sm6s
