I decided to use this quarantine to watch the original Candyman (1992) for the first time, so when the new sequel comes out in September (hopefully) I will understand what’s going on.I expected it to be a cheesy, cheap, schlocky horror similar to late 80’s/early 90’s films such as Hellraiser, Leprechaun, and the later sequels to Nightmare and Friday 13th.WOW I was wrong! This film is so great. More of a mystery thriller than a horror. The pacing and mythology kept me interested. I found it very unpredictable also. The visuals and imagery were outstanding, particularly the scene with the bees covering Helen and Candyman toward the end. No cheap jump scares either. And the performances were so above par for horror of the time. Tony Todd is menacing and interesting. I just wanted to know more about Candyman, but they also didn’t over explain. Virginia Madsen played Helen as a very believable, developed character. I am not very familiar with her work but she was just great. Absolutely stunning also, and I say that as heterosexual lady, not perving, just appreciating her beauty.I’m so pumped for the sequel now. Not sure if I should watch the other Candyman films from the 90’s or if it’s a direct sequel to the first, does anyone know? via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2WknK6w
