If you enjoyed Uncut Gems this year, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead from 2007 would be a great watch. Similarly, the colder you go in, the better, so if at any point reading through this post you're sold on it, stop reading and go watch it.The film was Sydney Lumet's (12 Angry Men) last directorial feature before his death. It's Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and is a Must See on MetacriticLumet aside, this is a film that is easy to recommend on the cast alone. It's more or less an r/movies dream team:Philip Seymour HoffmanEthan HawkeMarisa TomeiMichael ShannonAmy RyanAlbert FinneyThe setup is about two brothers who partner up on a robbery so that they can get themselves out of debt. The story itself shares a lot of similar themes to Uncut Gems, which makes it easy to recommend one if you like the other. Time-worn motifs like sibling rivalry, addiction, financial struggle, and of course family dysfunction. The telling of the story is also experimental with how the chronology is layered which plays a huge role in how it's able to build and maintain tension.TrailerWhere to Stream via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2ZzahJX
