I think it gives scenes a lot more of an impact, specifically the shootout scene in Django. It adds so much more to the scene that he is getting some revenge by literally painting the walls red with blood. It gives a bit more dark humor in the Marvin scene in Pulp Fiction the way his head just explodes out of nowhere.
