What are some good female characters in films that do not necessarilly involve violence?

So this Sunday was International Women's Day, and social media was flooded with posts about films with "strong female characters". Pretty much all of these were action films (Ripley, Sarah Connor, Black Widow, etc), and I got to thinking how people usually define a character as "strong" based on violence, and seldom less on other factors. So my question is this: what are some good female characters in largely non-violent films? I want to try and exclude the action genre in order to have a discussion about female characters that are defined largely by their actions and choices and less so on how much ass they can kick. Also, good and strong does not necessarilly mean morally good. For instance, I love Meryl Streep's portrayal of Sister Aloysius in Doubt, and I think the character is very well written, despite the fact that she is potentially a horrible person. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2vceXJ5
