When it came out in 2011, it got A LOT of negative publicity because it was marketed as a movie about a disease that almost ended the world. Instead of a blockbuster action packed movie with people killing everyone and the end of society, people got something that resembled documentary dramatizations with A-listing actors and actresses.My first viewing of it was pretty disappointed. I expected the movie to be really exciting and it really wasn’t....With the coronavirus spreading everywhere, everyone I know has been watching outbreak movies. I decided to give this film a second viewing and realized what the movie was supposed to be: an accurate depiction of a deadly and infectious disease and the protocol that would take place.Many of the things that happened in the film is actually happening in real life. First off, there was no consensus of what the disease was in the film and nobody knew how to treat it or how to quarantine it. The same exact situation right now. There is so much misinformation about what the virus is and how deadly or non-deadly it is.The people in the movie go to the stores and literally take all of the resources they can. Toilet paper, food, hand sanitizer. I work at a supermarket and I can confirm that people are fleeing to the stores and are hoarding up on everything they can. Look at social media and see how people are fighting over trivial things such as toilet paper.The virus in the movie is a type of flu and came from a bat and a pig... many scientists now say that COVID-19 came from a bat and pig somewhere in the world.The virus in the movie started in China, CV started in China.There was a blogger in the movie who worked for a company to get people to buy their product called “forsythia,” which ’cures’ the virus even though there was no evidence for that to be true. The same kinds of stories are happening now with HIV meds and “drug Cocktails” which claim that their drugs cure the disease.In the Movie, they are faced with the problem of how they are going to send out mass productions of a vaccine. They go by people’s birthdays. We don’t even have a vaccine yet,and by the time that the vaccine is made, we will follow this same protocol.The movie shows a lot of public officials such as policemen and fireman practicing absenteeism. We are starting to see the precursors of this with many people calling off work even though they aren’t sick.The film when it came out was deemed as boring and stupid and Not many people came to see it.
