We’ve all seen the movies where months and years go by and the heroes and villains still manage to keep using cars whether by siphoning gas from stations and left over cars or just driving the cars they find themselvesThis is an incredibly bad writing/research.In a car gasoline will go bad in a gas tank in 3-6 months. A year with an additive which no car you find lying around will have in it. Gas in an airtight container will be unusable in around a year. Diesel has a slightly longer shelf life of a little over a year. And that’s in a truly airtight container like a gas station tankAfter that the gas turns to jelly and will destroy whatever engine you try to use it in and eventually doesn’t work at all (end of that shelf life)It’s so frustrating to see this in every movie where society breaks down because anyone who owned a lawn mower or an onboard motor knows you have to use up the gas at the end of the season because it turns to jelly and will fuck up your engine and then become unusable after thatLike the writers figure out that cell and electric services would shut down but then ignore basic mechanical knowledge via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2qXkWPW

» One of my biggest grips with apocalypse/zombie movies is the misconception on how long gasoline lasts
