John Cusack playing the impossibly slick assassin Blank nails the line between ironically and genuinely cool, a spot normally reserved in cinema cannon for the early James Bonds. The pulpy 90/80s soundtrack filled to the brim with The Clash, The Specials and Violent Femmes is one of the best collection of songs assembled on film and, whilst gimmicky, the local radio station providing context and exposition throughout works in a nostalgic way as well as being integrated properly into the plot unlike in most films who use the same trick. The premise of an assassin blackmailed into a job in his hometown during his 10 year high school reunion is ridiculous, silly, contrived and most importantly it works. Minnie Driver as a love interest is cool without being overly sexualized and Dan Ackroid puts in one of his last great perfomances before he started his strange fascination with crystal skulls and vodka.Unfortunately this film, that was appreciated at the time, has not had the longevity of other cult classics but as a pulpy, not-so-serious, nostalgic, feelgood time its right up there with the best. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2OdKf7I

» Grosse Point Blank (1997) is a massively underappreciated cult action comedy that deserves its place alongside The Big Lebowski, Ghostbusters and Hot Fuss.
