The "Before" trilogy.

​https://ift.tt/2MbjBhd remember casually watching the first chapter and be quite surprise in reading about the whole trilogy for the first time.Set 9 years apart from each other and in one single day, the movie shows the main characters, Jess and Celine, at different stages of their lives, the first one being in their early 20's (after casually meeting on a train for Paris ,the two decide to get off in Vienna and spend the time before the next day together just walking and talking through the city) .The second and the third chapter shows them in their 30's and their 40's respectively.It's impossible to give details about the plot without giving away spoilers but I found the characters and writing extremely compelling. In movies like Boyhood (with Hawke in the lead, not a coincidence i suspect) we have had the chance to follow a character during years long growth and, while someone could argue that every sequel covers inevitably years long growth, this is a process to consider very rare in romantic movie sequels and probably unprecedented when it comes to trilogies. The most compelling aspect is having the chance to look through the love window in these very different stages of an adult life. The one day setting and focus on the never ending dialogue(rehearsed in such details to feel almost improvised at time, but never the case) , it's impossible not going in depth in the characters psyche and emotions.It really feels like seeing old friends again every time.​https://ift.tt/2KEuntl only recently found out that the story is based on the real life experience of the director Richard Linklater, the encounter in 1989 with a young girl called Amy. https://ift.tt/2MfuFd5 (I will advise to read the article only if you already watched the movie).I've watched the trilogy for the second time yesterday and I liked it even more than the first time but I don't see it mentioned as much as I think it deserves.
