Which Is Your Favorite Closing Line In Film? For me, it is Seven's closing line.

"Ernest Hemingway once wrote, "The world is a fine place and worth fighting for." I agree with the second part."It is such a powerful line with realism and optimism. Some actually misinterpret this line as being pessimistic but it is actually kind of the opposite. What William Somerset is saying is that he still sees the world as a dark place but it is still worth fighting for it because there is still some good in it. Innocent people to save and protect. Apathy is not the answer. Just retiring from his job won't save other victims in the future so he decides to stay and fight crime. This is also reinconporation for the bar scene where Mills asks Somerset about his retirement and start arguing about their ideals. Mills does beat him in this argument and points out that he is wrong for just retiring and not longer pay attention to crimes in the city and also that he is no much different from others that don't pay attention to the immorality roaming in the streets. And we notice in the movie that this does affect Somerset and becomes mad because of this. Of himself. After what he has experienced his partner falling apart with his idealist view and seeing Mills' wife killed along with her baby by a man who shared Somerset's view on humanity, he decided to keep fighting crime with them in mind. He wants to prevent another killer like John Doe from killing and ruining more innocent people like them and not ignore the bad happening in the world. It is also as a response of committing that mistake of aborting his child so he could not see the evil in the world and to his guilt for that in his past. And unlike Mills, he is ready to fight crime in the city because he has already been experiencing the darkness long enough to face it and mixed his view of the world with Mills' ideal for making a difference. Unlike Mills, he won't give up and won't let sins get to him. This line shows Somerset's development as a character, a conclusion to his character arc where he changes his cynical viewpoint, a answer to the events and conclusion to the main themes of the film. via /r/movies http://bit.ly/2IoVRV0
