If ‘Apollo 11’ wasn’t a documentary, It would be one of the greatest Sci-fi films ever made.

From the first shot, you know you’re in for something crazy. A insane trundling mechanical beast crawling along. Its carrying something the size of a skyscraper and just from the size, scale scope of what’s going on you know that this means a hell of a lot. (And not a bit of CGI in sight. They did that shit with practical effects)But who are our protagonists? The next scene shows us three men, suiting up. Their acting is incredible. You actually believe that they’re thinking about just how fucking insane and important what they are about to do is. In a beautifully efficient montage we see all the trials, tribulations and moments that could be flashing through their head. (And we get just the right amount of backstory on who they are and why they could do this impossible task)Stakes are set, the rocket is in place, next up is lighting the fuse. I won’t spoil the plot if you haven’t seen it but be prepared for a white knuckle tense landing, the best docking scene ever put to film, and the hardest sci fi film to date.Fantasy aside, this is a truly majestic film, with character moments capturing the astronauts, long takes of incredible artistry, tension, elation and awe galore. It could be nominated in multiple Oscar categories including:Best actor - the actions of the astronauts in the suiting up scene.Best cinematography - A Lawrence of Arabia-esque shot of the lunar surface panning past the camera. A spec appears and grows, little by little, to resolve into the spacecraft carrying out heroes back.Best visual effects - The rocket launching in incredible detail, everything from the first ignition, to the penultimate stage watching the rest fly away before it falls to earth.Best makeup and hair styling - The short of people assembled to watch the launch, or of the other parts of the organization around the mission capture 1960’s in all its glories and faults.Best costume design - You could take those suits and use em on the moon if you wanted to.If you can, you should absolutely see this film. via /r/movies http://bit.ly/2Zs8unI
