Do they send divers to retrieve things they threw in the water during filming ?

I've always wondered that when a character is throwing a gun or a phone in the water, they have to send somedoby to retriveve that, right ? It's not like they're obliged to do it but it's the correct thing to do regardless. Same thing goes for cars, they can't really leave that in the water.
