What movie did you think was bigger part of the zeitgeist/ethos/culture when you were a kid, only to grow up and realize it wasn't really as popular a movie as you thought?

I was born in 1989 and growing up it seemed Beethoven (the dog movie) was an iconic film along the lines of Home Alone, Beauty and the Beast, The Sandlot, etc. It seemed every kid I knew had a VHS copy of it at their house and I remember people considering Saint Bernards the "Beethoven dog" just like how one would consider collies the "Lassie dog".Fast-forward 30 years and Beethoven never comes up in today's movie zeitgeist. They don't show it on TV, no one parodies it, there's no cast reunion, or remakes like the other movies referenced above. Perhaps it wasn't nearly as big of a movie as I thought it was.Are there any other movies you thought were iconic, nationwide blockbusters as a kid only to grow up and realize it was only popular in your own bubble? via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3piogAM
