I watched "Respect" and Jennifer Hudson is playing Aretha Franklin from her late teens until about 30. Jennifer was 37/38 when the movie was filmed (it's been in the works since she was in her mid-20s, so this would have been a smaller gap had it not taken so long to produce). Despite that, Jennifer really did a fantastic job with the portrayal. She's reason enough to watch this movie, her performance--both signing and acting--were outstanding. Together with the fact that she doesn't look her age IRL made the age disconnect easy to ignore. Then I saw the trailer for "Dear Evan Hansen." Ben Platt was 26/27 during filming playing a high school student. Just like Jennifer, his talent is obvious, but unlike Jennifer, he looks MUCH older than his age and they didn't do a great job masking that in the film. As a result, I just can't buy that he's supposed to be a high school student. It's honestly a distraction and I'm not sure I would be able to suspend my disbelief and enjoy the movie. What are your examples of age disparities that either didn't matter or were a burden on the film? via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3tgKDq3

» What examples are there of actors that are playing a much younger/older role that either worked well or didn't work at all for the movie?
