I recently watched Icarus (2017) which started out as a cyclist just trying to see how athletes pass doping tests, like Lance Armstrong, by using himself as a test subject with the help of scientists – that was going to be the whole documentary. But after a few months of filming and working closely with a very high-level specialist in Russia, it came to light that the Russian government was involved in a massive doping program with that specialist at the very heart of it – and now the documentary is about this giant scandal that created huge waves internationally, and this specialist fearing for his life. What other documentaries start out with one goal but accidentally stumble on something much bigger/deeper? via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3ALgBgG
