Theaters don't need to die, but they do need to adapt.

It does look like we're seeing the end of Blockbuster movies where hundreds of people need to see it opening night. But that doesn't mean movie theaters need to shut down. There's still a very, very large demand for movie theaters. What I think they need to do is transition the idea from "Selling a new movie" to "Selling a theater experience." What I'm suggesting is that it could be more like the mindset of going to a water park, you're paying for the experience, not because you can't swim in your pool at home, but because their experience is better. They could start showing old movies alongside new ones based on what they think will sell, they could do live sports that you can watch with like minded fans in your area, they could even do new episodes of big TV shows like The Mandalorian or even a ten hour showing of a new Netflix season with intermissions.I don't know how many could do it and I really, really expect there to be less theaters ten years from now than there were last year. But I don't think the concept of movie theaters needs to disappear, I think they need to capitalize on why people don't want them to. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2L7cSpl
