There's something so timeless and endearing about it. I'd imagine that the experiences of growing up in the 1950s is alien to most people here. That's likely the generation of our grandparents or parents, and yet the dynamic between the kids is so relatable.I grew up as a teenager in the early 2010s, playing Halo Reach with my friends.. and yet while watching Stand By Me, a story of some boys in the 1950s who go on an adventure in their small town, I was struck by nostalgia. There's just something about that time which is so bittersweet. You're grateful that such a time ever existed, and yet you know it will never come back. And therein lies the pain of nostalgia. What this film also does well is capture the depressing reality of small towns. All of the boys want to leave that place, but only few of them truly believe they will ever get out. It is this reality which makes it rather sobering that for at least some of those characters, their experience with that friend group is as good as life is going to get for them. And lastly, the acting... it's just so fucking good. I know people praise the child actors in Stranger Things, and they are good, but I genuinely think the child actors here were way better. There's some really heavy emotional weight in these scenes and the child actors deliver. Mainly, River Phoenix and Will Wheaton really just knock it out of thr park. RIP River.I truly reccomend this film to everyone, it's so amazing. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/383zj6x
