MovieModsRecommend - Runaway Train

We mods are in this subreddit daily and know the users feel like the same movies are talked about way too often. The most popular movies on Reddit are certainly some great ones, but every Friday we're going to recommend what we think are good movies and aren't discussed much in this subreddit. These recommendations aren't all pretentious film school meditations on human verisimilitude, we swear they're watchable :)December 11, 2020 is Runaway Train - 1985. Trailer link. The basic premise: two convicts escape a maximum security prison, get on a train, the train's engineer dies, and the train becomes a runaway. It's based on a story Akira Kurosawa wrote but directed by a Russian who co-wrote the Citizen Kane of Russia - Andrei Rublev, and later directed Tango & Cash. But I digress - I first watched Runaway Train on TV as a kid back in the early nineties. I didn't understand it all but damn it made me feel something. Stuck in me. Bought it, watch it every few years, and it still holds up in my opinion.Eric Roberts & Jon Voight were both nominated for Oscars in this movie, easily among their best work. Voight has a monologue that's pretty phenomenal to me, and this is also the movie that basically made Danny Trejo - he was a prisoner hired to teach Robert's boxing, then got a role in the movie.edit: also the music is just great.Where you can watch it onlinePlease use spoiler tags in the discussion below, as this is a recommendation thread for people who haven't seen the movie yet. If you have a suggestion for a future recommendation, please message the mods with it!The MovieModsRecommend Archive via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2JYGu7Y
