So, lately I’ve been watching a lot of videos from a film channel called Filmento. And a common complaint I see about a lot of the bad movies he reviews is that the exposition dump is that the exposition dump in the beginning can practically put the audience to sleep. However, Lord of the Rings did this long before any of those same movies were even released. And yet I never see any complaints about it in the context of the original Lord of the Rings. So, why does it work when Lord of the Rings does but not others that try it? Examples being Green Lantern, Jupiter Ascending, Gods of Egypt and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3kNDV63

» Why does the LOTR style history/exposition dump intro work for LOTR but not in most other movies?
